Nigerian man accuses Mauritius authorities of denying him and other Nigerians visa on arrival

A Nigerian tourist has accused Mauritian immigration authorities of blatant profiling after being turned back at the border despite holding valid reservations.

Slaifo Michael Jubril recounted his ordeal at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, where he and several other Nigerian passengers were denied entry. According to official documents shared by Jubril, authorities rejected his visa-on-arrival application on the grounds that he was a “non-bonafide visitor.”

The decision came as a shock to the travelers. While Nigerian passport holders can access 45 destinations globally without a prior visa, Mauritius is legally listed as one of the nations offering a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Jubril maintained that he followed all legal protocols, providing proof of a fully paid hotel stay and pre-booked tour reservations. He alleged that the authorities denied them entry based strictly on their green passports, sparking fresh conversations about the treatment of Nigerian travelers abroad.
