ABUJA – The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended warm greetings to Nigerian workers on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day, describing them as the backbone of national development and urging stronger protection of their welfare amid current economic challenges.

In a message shared on the Official PDP Nigeria X platform on Friday, the Secretary of the BoT, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and the Chairman of the BoT, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, paid tribute to workers across the country for their resilience and contributions to national growth.

The message read in part: “Happy Workers’ Day! May the labour of our workers not be in vain. Every worker deserves the cover of an umbrella to shield them from the harsh drops of the current economic rain.”

The PDP BoT leaders noted that Nigerian workers continue to make significant sacrifices in sustaining the economy despite prevailing economic hardship.

They called for greater attention to workers’ welfare, stressing that fair treatment and improved living conditions remain essential to national stability and development.

“Happy Workers’ Day to all the workers,” the statement added.

Workers’ Day is celebrated annually on May 1 to recognise the contributions of workers and promote discussions on labour rights and welfare globally.
