Tragedy hits Nollywood again as actor Patrick Okoye d!es suddenly

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of veteran actor and academic, Professor Patrick Okoye.

Popularly known by his screen moniker “Energy,” Okoye passed away in the early hours of Thursday, May 28, 2026.

The announcement was made via a statement posted on his official Instagram page on Friday morning.

Beyond his vibrant contributions to the screen, Okoye was a respected scholar. He served as a lecturer and professor in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, Faculty of Arts, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State.

He gained recognition for his roles in films such as “Midnight Love”, “Old School”, “Finding a Wife”, “The Lion”, “The Jagaban”, “Over My Dead Body”, among others.
