KANO — A 32-year-old woman and her 18-month-old son were among three persons rescued from wells in separate incidents in Kano State on Friday.
The Kano State Fire Service said the incidents occurred in Kumbotso and Warawa Local Government Areas following distress calls received between 7:06 a.m. and 9:40 a.m.
Spokesperson of the service disclosed that in the Warawa incident, firefighters responded to a distress call from Madarin Taba Village involving a woman and her child.
According to the statement, on arrival at the scene, rescue officials found the woman, identified as Maimuna Shitu, and her son, Harisu Muntari, trapped inside a well.
The Fire Service said information from the woman’s father indicated that she had been suffering from mental illness.
“Both victims were rescued unconscious and handed over to the Ward Head, Yusuf Surajo, and the woman’s father, Muhammad Shitu,” the statement said.
In a separate incident at Semegu area near El-Sadeeq Bread in Kumbotso Local Government Area, an unidentified man, believed to be about 40 years old, was also rescued after falling into a well.
“The victim was rescued unconscious and handed over to the Divisional Crime Officer, Salisu Salihu, of the Panshekara Police Division for further investigation,” the agency added.
The Fire Service said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
