2027: Enugu Catholic Diocese rejects planned Tinubu, Gov Mbah endorsement rally

The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has disowned a planned political endorsement rally in support of President Bola Tinubu and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, saying the event will not hold at the Jubilee Hall of Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, as earlier announced.
In a disclaimer issued on Sunday by the Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. Anthony Aneke, the Diocese said it does not permit the use of its churches, parish halls or other ecclesiastical facilities for partisan political activities, including endorsement rallies.
The Diocese was reacting to a media announcement circulating about a “Historic Endorsement Rally and Adoption Ceremony” scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2026, at Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu.
According to the statement, the planned event does not reflect the policy or position of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, stressing that the venue will not be made available for the political gathering.
“The Catholic Diocese of Enugu wishes to state that it does not permit the use of its churches, parish halls, or other ecclesiastical facilities for partisan political rallies, endorsements, or similar activities. Consequently, the use of Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, for the said political event does not reflect the policy or position of the Diocese and therefore will not hold at the said venue,” the statement read.
The Diocese expressed regret over any misunderstanding the announcement may have caused and urged the public to disregard any impression that it had endorsed or approved the proposed political event.
