About 47 Ghanaian health professionals have been deployed to Saint Kitts and Nevis under the government’s Health Workforce Migration Initiative, a programme that provides temporary overseas employment while protecting Ghana’s healthcare system.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Health, allows health workers to take up fixed-term jobs abroad before returning to Ghana to continue serving in the country’s health sector.
Under the programme, the professionals will work in Saint Kitts and Nevis on two to three-year contracts before returning home.
Speaking before their departure at the Accra International Airport, some of the health workers expressed excitement about the opportunity.
They said they are looking forward to providing quality healthcare services while proudly representing Ghana.
The professionals also thanked the government for creating what they described as an important opportunity for career growth.
Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo and Deputy Minister of Health Grace Ayensu-Danquah were at the airport to see the team off.
The Deputy Minister of Health assured Ghanaians that the professionals would return after completing their two-year contracts.
She added that they would benefit from better salaries, improved working conditions and other incentives during their stay abroad.
She described the initiative as a “win-win” arrangement for both Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis, saying it would also give the health professionals valuable international training and experience to improve their skills.
