7-Storey Building Collapses in Accra After Heavy Rainfall, No Deaths Reported

A seven-bedroom, three-storey building under construction has collapsed at Tabora Number 9 in Accra after heavy rains hit the city on Monday, June 29, 2026.
A video shared by Joy Prime on X on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, showed the building completely destroyed. Concrete blocks, iron rods, and construction materials were scattered across the site.
The building was reportedly about 90 percent complete. It is said to have collapsed around 9:00 pm after hours of continuous rainfall.
No casualties were recorded. Occupants reportedly left the building before it came down.
The footage also showed residents gathering at the scene, looking at the damage. Some personal belongings were seen buried under the debris.
The collapse has been linked to the heavy rainfall that caused flooding across Accra on Monday, June 29, 2026. Several communities were affected, with property damage and disrupted movement across the city.
Residents are waiting for officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to inspect the site and determine the exact cause of the collapse.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about building safety in flood-prone areas as authorities continue to assess damage across the Greater Accra Region.
Meanwhile a statement by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on June 29, 2026, put the death toll from the downpour and floods at 12 and rescued persons at 150.
