Adeboye never campaigned for any political party – RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed claims that Enoch Adejare Adeboye, its general overseer has ever campaigned for any government in power, insisting that the cleric has consistently maintained political neutrality.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the church’s Public Relations unit, the RCCG said its leader has always refrained from partisan political involvement, while encouraging members to participate in elections by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting according to their conscience.

The church stressed that Pastor Adeboye’s public interventions have been largely focused on moral guidance, prayer, and national development rather than political endorsements.

It also dismissed reports suggesting that the cleric called off a planned protest, explaining that he only conveyed directives from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding adjustments to a three-day prayer programme and rally structure.

According to the statement, the adjustment involved relocating the grand finale of the prayer programme to a central venue, in line with PFN’s nationwide directive to affiliated churches.

The RCCG further rejected allegations that Adeboye avoids speaking on national issues, noting that he has consistently addressed concerns such as insecurity, corruption, governance, and economic hardship through sermons and spiritual counsel.

“Let it be clearly stated: Pastor Adeboye and The RCCG will not be defined by falsehood,” the statement said, urging the public and media organisations to verify information through official church channels before publication.

It added that only statements issued or verified through RCCG’s communication platforms should be regarded as the official position of the church.

The clarification comes amid renewed public debate over the role of religious leaders in Nigeria’s political space ahead of the 2027 general elections.
