Army rescues mother, baby after Kogi kidnapping attack

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued a woman and her six-month-old baby after a swift operation following a kidnapping attack in Egbe, Yagba West LGA of Kogi state.

The victims were abducted alongside three other family members when suspected terrorists invaded a residence near Solid Rock School in Ijalu on Wednesday night.

According to the Army, troops working with local vigilantes immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation after receiving a distress call from the community.

The pressure from the combined security team forced the kidnappers to abandon the mother and child along the Oro axis before escaping into nearby bushes.

The rescued victims were safely returned home, while operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining abductees and track down the attackers.

The Army said it had earlier rescued 23 passengers in a separate operation along the Ayegunle–Bunu road and neutralised a terrorist in Lokoja during an ambush on May 30.

It reaffirmed its commitment to tackling kidnapping and urged residents to provide timely intelligence to security agencies.
