Buni Appoints Yerima Ibn Mahmud as new Emir of Ngazargamu

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the appointment of Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu following the death of the former monarch, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje.

According to the statement, the appointment followed the recent passing of the late Emir, who died in Egypt after a prolonged illness. He was laid to rest on Friday in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

Until his elevation to the throne, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud held the traditional title of Turakin Ngazargamu, a position he occupied for 16 years. He is also known for his extensive public service record, having previously served as a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly.

The new Emir has also held several key positions in government. He served as a member of the Yobe State Executive Council and was at one time Commissioner for Livestock Development before his appointment as the paramount ruler of the Ngazargamu Emirate.

Governor Buni, while congratulating the new monarch and the people of the emirate, expressed confidence in the Emir’s ability to provide purposeful leadership and foster unity among his subjects.

The governor urged the new Emir to deploy his wealth of experience in public service and traditional leadership to strengthen peace, promote harmonious coexistence, and drive economic growth within the emirate and across Yobe State.

He also emphasized the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and values of the emirate while working towards the overall development of the state and the country.

Buni further called on the people of Ngazargamu Emirate to rally behind the new Emir and support him in the discharge of his responsibilities.

According to the governor, such support would enable the monarch to perform the functions of his office effectively and contribute to the promotion of peace, unity, stability, and prosperity in the emirate.

The appointment marks a new chapter in the leadership of the historic Ngazargamu Emirate, one of the prominent traditional institutions in Yobe State, as it seeks to build on the legacy of the late Emir and strengthen its role in community development and social cohesion.
