Ex-Major Gen Abubakar Rabe dies in bandits den

The Katsina State Government has officially announced the tragic passing of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while being held in bandits’ captivity.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Honorable Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Muazu.

According to the state government, General Abubakar succumbed to natural medical complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his confinement.

The state government revealed that the tragedy occurred despite relentless, concerted efforts by both local authorities and various security agencies to negotiate and secure his safe release.

Reacting to the incident, Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, extended his deepest condolences to the deceased officer’s family and the nation. Governor Radda described the event as a “dark moment” for the country.

He said the General’s abduction and subsequent death represent a monumental loss not just to his immediate family and Katsina State, but to Nigeria as a whole.


Governor Radda noted that this tragic outcome serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for a collective and intensified front against the criminal elements threatening the peace of Nigerian communities.

The Katsina State Government reiterated its unwavering commitment to partnering with the Federal Government and security forces to bring the perpetrators of this abduction to justice. Dr. Muazu assured residents that the state’s resolve to eliminate banditry and guarantee the safety of all citizens remains completely unshaken.

The statement prayed for the bereaved family, asking for eternal peace for the soul of the departed military leader.
