FIFA Bans Vuvuzelas, Air Horns Ahead of 2026 World Cup

FIFA has banned vuvuzelas and a range of other noise-making devices from all stadiums at the 2026 World Cup, which runs from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The popular plastic horns, which became globally associated with the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, have been added to FIFA’s list of prohibited items under its stadium code of conduct.

While many fans embraced vuvuzelas as part of the matchday experience, others long complained about their persistent droning sound.

The ban extends to whistles, air horns, and other excessively loud noise-making instruments across all 16 tournament venues.

Beyond noise-makers, FIFA has also prohibited laser pointers and laser-emitting devices, and has clarified that body paint and body tattoos do not count as clothing meaning streaking or exposing intimate body parts remains forbidden.

Fans will additionally be barred from bringing reusable water bottles into stadiums, with FIFA citing safety concerns as the reason.

Those found violating the code of conduct risk being denied entry or ejected from venues.

The expanded 48-team tournament kicks off on June 11 with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
