Floods In Accra: Young Men Pull Dead Cow From Flooded Gutter At Circle

Published

on

A group of young men were filmed working together to remove the carcass of a dead cow from a flooded gutter near Kwame Nkrumah Circle following Monday morning’s heavy downpour, in footage that has raised public concern over the potential entry of contaminated meat into the food supply chain.

In a video at our disposal, the men were labouring collectively at the edge of the floodwater, pulling the large animal carcass from debris-strewn gutters amid the aftermath of the flooding that devastated the Circle area and other parts of Accra.

The video has sparked considerable unease online, with many viewers expressing concern that carcasses recovered from floodwaters in commercial areas could potentially be sold into informal meat markets without the knowledge of unsuspecting consumers, given the chaotic conditions surrounding flood cleanup efforts.

It remains unconfirmed what became of the carcass after its removal from the gutter, including whether it was properly disposed of by sanitation or veterinary authorities, or whether any food safety inspection was conducted at the scene.
