Girlfriend Dispute Turns Deadly as 30-Year-Old man Hacked to Death in Edo

A fight allegedly sparked by a dispute over a girlfriend has turned tragic in Okpella, the administrative headquarters of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, leaving a 30-year-old man, Jayeoba Sunday, dead.
The Edo State Police Command said it has arrested four suspects, including Idowu Ayoson, over the alleged killing of the deceased during a confrontation.
Sunday was said to have died at a hospital in Auchi from machete injuries allegedly inflicted on him by Idowu Ayoson during the fight.
Police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the incident was initially reported as a case of arson after buildings were set ablaze during the crisis that followed the killing.
She added that investigation led to the arrest of additional suspect and the recovery of a locally made pistol from a bush in Igarra.
The killing was said to have triggered a reprisal attack, resulting in the burning of houses and escalating tension in the community.
Police said investigation into the incident is ongoing.
