Insecurity: Lagos council boss rallies support for Tinubu

The Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area, David Odunmbaku, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress to remain steadfast in their support for President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the current security challenges facing the country did not start under his administration.

This was contained in a statement on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the council boss, Ayodele Olalere.

According to the statement, Odunmbaku made the appeal while addressing APC members in Ward E, as part of ongoing engagements across the six wards in the council.

The media aide noted that the chairman called for unity and sustained confidence in the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He acknowledged concerns over insecurity across the country but maintained that Tinubu inherited long-standing security problems and is already taking steps to address them.

Odunmbaku disclosed that the Federal Government’s efforts include strengthening security agencies, improving the welfare of personnel, and exploring community-based policing strategies as part of broader reforms aimed at restoring peace and stability.

“We have just concluded our party primaries, but our attention must now turn to the bigger task ahead, which is the 2027 presidential election.

“We are all aware of the security challenges facing our country today. Some people blame President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming that he is not doing enough.

“However, it is important to remember that these challenges did not begin with his administration,” Odunmbaku was quoted as saying.

The chairman stressed that the President had continued to invest in the security of the nation with improved welfare for military personnel.

“The President has continued to invest in our security agencies, improve the welfare of our soldiers and police officers, and support ongoing efforts to strengthen community-based policing and other security initiatives. Nigeria is also working with international partners to enhance its security capabilities.

“I want to assure you that this government has the interest of Nigerians at heart. We must remain steadfast, support our party, and continue to work together for a safer and more prosperous Nigeria. Do not give up on President Tinubu or the APC,” the statement quoted.

Odunmbaku also reportedly engaged with security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen security in the LCDA.

“The council boss also held a strategic meeting with security stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigerian Legion.

“He charged the security agencies to maintain professionalism and intensify efforts in tackling criminal activities, particularly drug abuse, cultism, and other social vices within the community, while reaffirming the council’s commitment to supporting security operations and ensuring the safety of residents,” the statement concluded.

Odunmbaku’s remarks come amid growing concerns over insecurity in several parts of the country, including renewed attacks by armed groups, kidnappings for ransom, and violent incidents.

Tinubu has repeatedly maintained that his administration is committed to addressing the country’s security challenges.

Security has remained a key issue in Nigeria’s political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political actors across party lines increasingly weighing in on the performance of the current administration and the direction of the country’s security architecture.
