Kano Police Restrict Movement Ahead of Dawakin Kudu Warawa Bye Election

In advance of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election, which is set for Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Kano State Police Command has declared that travel in some areas of the state will be restricted.

During the election, the limitation will have an impact on both pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Friday that included the directive.

The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting on Wednesday resulted in security plans that include the measure, according to the statement.

In order to guarantee a peaceful and legitimate election, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, oversaw the complete execution of the security strategy.

According to the statement, “a peaceful and orderly electoral process will be guaranteed by the full deployment of the security architecture developed with all ICCES partners.”

The directive clarified that on election day, movement will be restricted from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It said, “On Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 1200 hours to 1700 hours, there will be complete restriction of vehicular and pedestrian movement within Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas.”

However, according to the police, INEC officials, authorized media personnel, accredited observers, and critical workers would all be exempt.

In order to protect voters and election materials, the command also revealed that security guards had been sent to polling places, collation centers, and other crucial areas.

It issued a warning against electoral malpractice, emphasizing that misinformation, vote buying, violence, and ballot box grabbing will not be accepted.

“Electoral violence and any kind of malpractice are not tolerated by the Command. The statement went on, “Anyone found will be detained and prosecuted under the Electoral Act.”

Along with adhering to all election regulations and maintaining peace, residents were also advised to report any suspicious activity to security officials via designated emergency numbers.
