Karimi commends Tinubu over approval of Kogi-Kwara, Kogi-Ekiti road rehabilitation

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the rehabilitation of two major federal roads linking Kogi State with Kwara and Ekiti states, describing the development as a significant milestone for infrastructure and regional connectivity.

The roads — Obajana-Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Omu Aran-Ilorin and Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti — were among 27 major road projects approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) during its meeting chaired by President Tinubu on 29 June 2026.

The Federal Government approved a total of N3.9 trillion for road infrastructure nationwide, with N104 billion allocated for Sections One and Two of the Kogi-Kwara road and N24.7 billion earmarked for the Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti road.

Speaking during his regular meeting with political leaders and stakeholders from the seven local government areas of Kogi West, Senator Karimi described the approvals as evidence of President Tinubu’s commitment to equitable national development and responsive governance.

According to the lawmaker, the Obajana-Kabba-Isanlu-Egbe-Omu Aran-Ilorin road has suffered years of neglect despite serving as a strategic route connecting parts of the South-West to the Federal Capital Territory and northern Nigeria.

He noted that the Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti road is equally important because it provides vital access between Kogi, Ekiti, Osun and Kwara states, adding that the rehabilitation would ease transportation challenges and improve economic activities across the region.

Karimi said the projects would bring relief to motorists who have endured poor road conditions, loss of productive time and frequent vehicle damage while travelling on the affected routes.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services also applauded Nigerians for their continued support for the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is restoring public confidence through visible infrastructural development.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing investment in road infrastructure would enhance the safety and comfort of road users while also helping to curb insecurity by reducing opportunities for criminal activities often associated with poor roads.

Karimi thanked his constituents for their confidence and support throughout his sustained advocacy for the rehabilitation of the two roads. He also acknowledged the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for responding to his repeated appeals on behalf of the people of Kogi West.

The senator further urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure drive, improved foreign reserves and other developmental initiatives have positioned the country for sustained growth and national progress.
