Killings: Church observes CAN’s ‘Black Sunday’ in Umuahia

The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Umuahia Area Headquarters in Abia State, has held a “Black Sunday” service to conclude a three-day national mourning and prayer programme declared by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
CAN had declared a three-day national mourning and prayer period from Friday to Sunday, with Sunday designated as Black Sunday, in response to the spate of killings, kidnappings, and other violent attacks across the country.
Delivering his sermon during the “Black Sunday” service, the Deputy Territorial Chairman of The Apostolic Church Nigeria (TACN), Igboland Territory, Apostle Joseph Okoroafor, said that the rate of insecurity and hardship required collective prayers by Christians.
He urged Christians to pray for Nigerian leaders and military personnel who are on the frontlines of the battle against insurgents.
“Travelling these days is no longer easy. Things have become difficult in our nation. Our naira has lost its value. Some people find it difficult to eat two times a day.
“We need to pray for our leaders and the led. We need to pray for Nigeria against bandits and insurgents. So, we need to pray for Nigeria,” he said.
Apostle Okoroafor lamented that the lives of Christians and other Nigerians were being wasted on a daily basis without explanation and urged all citizens to be security conscious.
He, however, advised the federal government to equip the Nigerian military with adequate equipment to enable the officers to defeat the bandits on the battlefield.
