Lagos Arrests 45 Beggars In Oshodi, Agege And CMS Enforcement Sweep

The Lagos State Government has arrested 45 beggars, including both adults and minors, during separate enforcement operations carried out in the Oshodi, Agege, and CMS areas of the state.

The Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this in a statement shared on his social media page on Wednesday.

According to him, 22 beggars comprising adults and a number of teenagers were apprehended during operations in Oshodi and Agege, while a further 14 adults and nine children were picked up at CMS during the same exercise.

Wahab added that clearance operations were still ongoing in other parts of the state, including Admiralty Way in Lekki and Addo Road in Ajah.

Earlier reports circulating online had indicated that the Lagos State Government intensified its environmental enforcement efforts over the past year, recording a total of 10,634 arrests across the state within a single twelve-month period.

According to Wahab, 5,715 of those arrested were caught illegally crossing highways, while 3,886 others were apprehended for offences such as street trading, environmental pollution, and cart pushing.

An additional 102 persons were arrested for open defecation, and 931 individuals were picked up for various waste management-related violations across the state.
