Late Mr Ibu’s son calls out his widow days after she came out to seek financial assistance

Trouble seems to be brewing in the household of late actor John Okafor aka Mr Ibu as his third child has publicly called out his widow, Stella, accusing her of squandering the actor’s assets and denying him and the other children he had before meeting her access to his funds.

A public feud has broken out within the family of the late veteran Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu. 

The actor’s third child has publicly accused his widow, Stella Maris Okafor, of squandering family assets and blocking other children from accessing their late father’s funds. Mr Ibu passed away in March 2024 following prolonged health complications that led to the amputation of his leg.

The internal conflict escalated after a video surfaced online showing Stella publicly soliciting financial assistance to care for herself and her three children. Speaking in an interview with content creator KingMitchy, Stella disclosed that the household is currently facing a severe financial crisis. According to the widow, the family has lived without electricity for nearly two months due to unpaid utility bills. She stated that they currently rely on well water, charge their mobile devices outside the residence daily, and are struggling to cover the children’s school fees.

“We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my light for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And… It’s not easy.

Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she said

 

Her public outcry came as a surprise to many, including the actor’s fourth child, Somto.

In a reaction video making the rounds on social media, Somtochukwu, who identified himself as Mr Ibu’s third son and fourth child, countered her claims. He alleged that Stella deliberately mismanaged and took control of properties intended for all the actor’s children. Somtochukwu specifically accused his stepmother of selling off his late father’s houses in Lagos without distributing the proceeds. 

He further asserted that she has kept public donations and financial resources for herself while completely cutting off the actor’s children from previous relationships

“My late father left a lot of properties for all his children, but his wife chose to take everything for herself and her own children. Her actions are becoming something else. My father left many properties for all of us, yet she took control of everything. She even sold my father’s house in Lagos for N60 million without reaching out to any of his children.” he said
