An 18-year-old WASSCE candidate from Notre Dame Girls Senior High School in Ghana’s Bono Region has died shortly after completing her final examination paper.
The student, identified as Jacinta Phiapre Kubi Appiah, reportedly collapsed after writing her last WASSCE paper on Thursday.
She was rushed to the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital at Fiapre, near Sunyani, where medical officers later pronounced her dead.
Reports indicate that Jacinta had previously been admitted at the same hospital and was allowed to return to school to complete her final examination paper.
After successfully writing the paper, she reportedly collapsed shortly afterwards.
The cause of her death has not yet been officially confirmed.
The incident has left students, teachers, parents and residents shocked, with many expressing their sadness over the loss.
Members of the school community have described the incident as a painful moment, as the day that was expected to mark the end of her secondary education became a tragedy.
