NDC Aspirant Urges Tinubu to Declare National Emergency Over Insecurity

A House of Representatives aspirant under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of national emergency on insecurity, warning that the escalating wave of killings, kidnappings, terrorist attacks, and assaults on schools threatens Nigeria’s stability and future.

In a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, Klinsmann argued that the frequency and spread of attacks on communities, highways, farms, places of worship, and educational institutions indicate a national crisis rather than isolated security incidents.

He expressed particular anguish over attacks targeting schools, insisting that no responsible government should allow classrooms to become scenes of fear and violence, and that the safety of children and teachers must be elevated to a top national priority.

He also highlighted the economic dimension of the crisis, noting that insecurity is driving farmers off their lands, discouraging investment, disrupting businesses, and displacing families especially in rural communities where residents feel increasingly abandoned by the state.

Klinsmann attributed the security breakdown to weak leadership, poor intelligence gathering, inadequate inter-agency coordination, corruption, and the insufficient use of technology.

While acknowledging the efforts of security personnel, he called for better funding, equipment, and support for the military, police, and other agencies.

Among his recommendations, he urged the federal government to strengthen intelligence networks, deploy modern surveillance technology, improve protection around schools and vulnerable communities, and ensure greater transparency in defence spending.

He also advocated investment in agriculture, youth employment, skills development, and social protection as long-term measures to tackle the root causes of insecurity.

As an aspirant for the Anaocha, Njikoka, and Dunukofia Federal Constituency seat, Klinsmann pledged to champion legislation aimed at strengthening security institutions and improving oversight of public funds, while urging Nigerians to hold their leaders accountable and pursue change through democratic and peaceful means.
