NDC pushes party supremacy, control reject personality cult, political vehicle for personal interest as Obidient movement insists on managing campaign funds

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has restated its position that it is building a strong political institution based on discipline, unity, and party supremacy, not a personality cult-driven movement or political vehicle for personal interests.

The party made this known in resolutions from its second National Executive Committee meeting, where it introduced new measures to strengthen internal structure, accountability, and long-term stability.

According to the party, all policies, programs, and appointments in governments elected under its platform must be handled in consultation with party structures, except personal staff roles. It added that members must fully align their activities with the party’s direction.

The party also directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organizations linked to it must operate under its supervision and cannot function independently or run parallel structures.

It announced plans for a comprehensive code of conduct for officials and candidates, with a committee led by the National Legal Adviser already working on the framework. A National Reconciliation Committee was also set up to resolve internal disputes among members.

On discipline, the party said loyalty to the party and national interest must come first for all members and aspirants.

It also introduced stricter financial accountability rules, stating that party officials must properly manage resources, while candidates must fully disclose all campaign funds and contributions. All campaign money must pass through official party accounts at all levels, including local, state, zonal, and national structures.

The statement comes after the Obidient Movement reportedly said that its structure would take charge of campaign fund management, a position that has sparked political debate over control, transparency, and authority in campaign financing.

The party said its reforms are aimed at building trust, transparency, and a stronger organization capable of lasting beyond individuals.
