Ogbu out for three months after surgery

Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu faces up to three months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a torn Achilles tendon sustained during Nigeria’s June international break, PidomNigeria Sports Extra reports.
Slavia Prague confirmed in a press release that the 24-year-old centre-back had the procedure at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice, with the operation reported to have gone successfully.
The club said Ogbu would now embark on an intensive rehabilitation programme before returning to action.
The injury is a bitter blow for the Nigerian, who had cemented himself as a key figure in Eric Chelle’s defensive setup.
Since the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Ogbu started five consecutive matches for the Super Eagles and played a prominent role in helping new Nigeria goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo record back-to-back clean sheets.
The setback also extends what has been a difficult stretch for the former Lillestrøm defender, whose previous season was disrupted by injuries that limited him to just nine league starts for Czech First League champions Slavia Prague.
If his recovery progresses as expected, Ogbu is likely to miss the opening two months of the new campaign before returning to contention for both club and country.
