Oyetola’s ex-commissioner, adviser quit Osun APC

A former Commissioner for Political Affairs and Inter-Governmental Relations in Osun State, Taiwo Akeju, who served in the administration of ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress.

Akeju’s resignation came alongside those of two other APC chieftains, Jamiu Olawumi and Chief Sunday Ojo-Williams, who also announced their exit from the party on Friday.

Olawumi also served as Special Adviser on Education during Oyetola’s tenure.

The three politicians are believed to be loyalists of former National Secretary of the APC, Iyiola Omisore.

Akeju was believed to have been nominated into the state cabinet by Omisore.

However, he did not state the reason for leaving the APC in his resignation letter obtained by Saturday PidomNigeria on Friday.

In the letter, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent in Osogbo, Akeju wrote, “I hereby resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress. Please note that this resignation takes immediate effect. This decision is personal and is taken after considering my political journey.”

Olawumi, a kinsman of Omisore from Ile-Ile, served as spokesperson for the Omisore Campaign Organisation before announcing his resignation from the APC in a brief letter.

He wrote, “I have resigned my membership of the party, APC.”

Saturday PidomNigeria gathered that three other APC chieftains who supported Omisore ahead of the party’s governorship primary in December 2025 had also resigned earlier this week.

The trio — Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare and Folorunso Oladoyin — were former members of the Osun State House of Assembly.

Bakare and Oladoyin also served in Oyetola’s cabinet as Special Adviser on Lands and Commissioner for Education, respectively.

Reacting to the development, Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said the party was not bothered by the resignations.

“We are indifferent. At a period like this, some people will go while some will come. If we look at it critically, those that left, if you compare with those that joined us, you will realize we lost nothing, but gained more. We had two Senators – Senators Fadahunsi and Fadeyi. We also got three House of Representatives members. Hon Wole Oke, Taofeek Ajilesoro and Sanya Omirin.

“We also got a member of PDP BoT, Pa Shuaib Oyedokun, Omooba Dotun Babayemi and Mr. Kayode Oduoye to mention but a few. It is better they even allow us to know where they belong this early instead of working against our party from with-in the system,” Olabisi said.

Asked if the party feared that more Omisore loyalists could leave, Olabisi said, “Fear is not in our dictionary. We are not afraid, we are not jittery.”
