Polaris Bank Limited has dismissed reports claiming that over 34 people died in a fire incident at its Broad Street branch in Lagos, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on social media on Thursday, the bank confirmed that a fire broke out on Thursday afternoon at a multi-storey building housing its Broad Street branch on Lagos Island, originating from a customer’s vehicle parked on the third-floor car park.
The bank said the blaze was swiftly contained following activation of its emergency response procedures and the prompt intervention of firefighters.
Polaris Bank stressed that there were no casualties or fatalities resulting from the incident, directly refuting circulating reports suggesting that more than 34 people were feared dead.
The bank said investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire, while thanking emergency responders, staff, customers, and other stakeholders for their support during the incident.
The bank urged members of the public to rely only on credible news sources and its official communication channels for accurate updates, and to disregard unverified reports circulating online.
