The Nasarawa State Police Command has intensified enforcement of vehicle registration regulations across the state, resulting in the impoundment of 27 vehicles and the prosecution of 19 motorists for various offences related to improper or unregistered number plates.
According to a statement by police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel, those arraigned faced charges ranging from driving unregistered vehicles and using covered or defaced number plates, to operating vehicles bearing unauthorized foreign registration plates or displaying manufacturer logos in place of approved registration numbers.
Nansel explained that the crackdown follows a directive from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu ordering a nationwide enforcement drive against vehicles violating registration laws.
He noted that unregistered vehicles and obscured number plates pose significant security risks, as criminals frequently exploit them to conceal their identities and evade law enforcement.
Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed officers to sustain enforcement efforts statewide, stressing that the initiative is aimed at enhancing public safety rather than inconveniencing law-abiding citizens.
He urged vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles carry valid, clearly visible registration plates at all times, warning that violators would continue to face arrest and prosecution as the command maintains its compliance drive.
The police command appealed for public cooperation, emphasizing that strict enforcement of vehicle registration laws plays a vital role in combating crime and strengthening security across the state, while reaffirming its broader commitment to protecting lives and property.
