Police nab three suspected gang members in Anambra

The Adamawa state police command has arrested three suspected criminals in separate operations targeting violent crime and gang-related activities in Yola North and Yola South LGA.
According to the command, the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to curb the activities of the notorious Shilla gang and other criminal groups operating within the state.
One of the suspects, identified as 22-year-old Abdulmalik Mohammed, was apprehended following an alleged robbery incident along the Doubeli Bypass in Yola. Police said the suspect reportedly attacked a passenger travelling in a commercial tricycle and made away with the victim’s mobile phone.
The command disclosed that members of the public intervened after the victim raised an alarm, leading to the suspect’s capture before police officers arrived at the scene and took him into custody.
Investigators later linked the suspect to several reported theft cases across the Yola metropolis, including the alleged theft of a sewing machine. Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to track down other individuals who may have been involved in the crimes.
In a separate operation, security operatives conducting routine patrols arrested two teenagers, identified as Abba Abdullahi, 17, and Abdulrahman Saidu, 16. The suspects were allegedly found carrying dangerous knives believed to have been intended for unlawful activities.
Police authorities said preliminary findings suggest the weapons may have been planned for use during a social gathering, although investigations are continuing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
Commending the officers involved in the operations, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Umar Hassan, reaffirmed the command’s determination to dismantle criminal gangs and strengthen public safety across the state.
The police also appealed to residents to continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and apprehending offenders.
