Police rescue five k!dnap victims in Ogun forest (video)

Operatives of the Lagos and Ogun police commands have rescued five kidnapped victims and k!lled four suspected k!dnappers during a joint operation in forests along the boundary between both states.

The operation, codenamed Operation Kosaye, was launched less than 48 hours earlier and targeted criminal hideouts around the J3/J4 axis of Ogbere in Ogun.

In a statement issued on Sunday, June 28, the Lagos police command said the intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of four suspected k!dnappers and 84 other suspects.

The command said officers recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and other exhibits during the raid.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in ensuring there is no hiding place for criminals, especially kidnappers, through intelligence-led operations and sustained security efforts. Ko S’aye fun iwa odaran. No place for criminalities. The forests are no longer safe havens for criminals.”he said

One of the rescued victims commended the police for the operation.

“I thank the Nigerian Police for their bravery and swift action. They risked their lives to enter the forest and rescue us. I appreciate the commissioner of police in both Lagos and Ogun state. It was surprising to see Nigerian police come swiftly to our rescue. We heard gunshots along the expressway from where we were held and immediately the kidnapper ran off, while we crawled out of where we were held.” he said

The operation comes amid growing concerns over k!dnapping and other violent crimes along the interstate border communities in the South-west.
