Sokoto Assembly confirms two commissioner-nominees

The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Thursday confirmed the appointment of two commissioner-nominees forwarded by Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
The confirmation followed the screening of the nominees during plenary.
Moving the motion for their confirmation, the Majority Leader, Bello Idris (APC-Gwadabawa North), said the governor submitted the nominees’ names in line with Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
He described the nominees as individuals of proven integrity who would contribute to the administration’s efforts to deliver good governance in the state.
Following their screening by the Committee of the Whole House, the Speaker, Tukur Bala, put the confirmation to a voice vote, which received unanimous approval from lawmakers.
The two nominees confirmed as commissioners and members of the Sokoto State Executive Council are Alhaji Nura Tangaza and Dr Bashir Achida.
Speaking after their confirmation, the commissioners-designate thanked the governor and the Assembly for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to support efforts aimed at improving the welfare of residents and advancing development across the state.
Meanwhile, the Assembly approved the Fourth Session legislative calendar of the 10th Assembly covering June 23, 2026, to May 27, 2027.
Presenting the calendar, Idris said it was prepared in compliance with Section 104 of the Constitution, which requires a state House of Assembly to sit for not fewer than 181 days in a legislative year.
According to him, the approved timetable provides for 184 sitting days.
The legislative calendar was subsequently adopted through a voice vote presided over by the Speaker.
