Tinubu hails NGX Chairman, Ahonsi Unuigbe, as he marks golden jubilee

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Mr. Ahonsi Unuigbe, Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), on the occasion of his 50th birthday, praising him as a visionary leader and distinguished entrepreneur whose contributions have strengthened Nigeria’s energy sector and capital market.
Tinubu’s congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued by the Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
The President praised Unuigbe, who is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Petralon Energy, for his record of achievements across investment banking, project finance, energy, public service and the capital market.
He noted that Unuigbe’s professional career had spanned several strategic sectors of the economy, including investment banking, project finance and public service, where he contributed to critical economic and fiscal initiatives that supported the development objectives of both the Federal Government and Edo State.
Tinubu particularly commended Unuigbe’s role in promoting indigenous participation in Nigeria’s energy industry through the establishment of Petralon Energy, which he described as one of the country’s leading independent energy companies.
“Unuigbe’s commitment to developing local capacity, attracting investment, creating jobs, and advancing Nigeria’s energy security reflects the spirit of enterprise and innovation needed to drive sustainable economic growth,” Tinubu said.
The President also lauded the NGX chairman’s efforts in deepening confidence in Nigeria’s capital market, noting that his leadership at the exchange continues to promote market integrity and broader investor participation.
“As Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Limited, he continues to champion market integrity, investor confidence, and broader participation in the capital market, all of which are essential to Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda,” he added.
Tinubu said Unuigbe’s accomplishments at the age of 50 demonstrated the capacity of Nigerians to build globally competitive institutions and create value for both the economy and society.
“At 50, Ahonsi Unuigbe has built a remarkable record of achievement across finance, energy, public service, and the capital market.
“Through enterprise, vision, and determination, he has demonstrated Nigerians’ capacity to build globally competitive institutions and create value that benefits both the economy and our people,” the President stated.
According to him, Nigeria’s quest for sustained economic growth, energy security and deeper capital market development requires leaders who combine professional excellence with a commitment to national development.
He described Unuigbe’s journey as an inspiration to younger generations of entrepreneurs and business leaders, urging more Nigerians to emulate his example of innovation, enterprise and service.
President Tinubu prayed for continued good health, wisdom and strength for the NGX chairman as he celebrates his golden jubilee.
