Tinubu’s wife inaugurates 10 roads in Makurdi, praises Alia’s infrastructure drive

The First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday inaugurated 10 new roads built by Gov. Hyacinth Alia’s administration in Makurdi.

Mrs Tinubu commended Alia’s commitment to infrastructure development and delivery of democratic dividends.

The first lady said the projects demonstrated the practical implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through investments that directly impact citizens’ lives and livelihoods.

She said the roads, with a combined length of 11.5 kilometres, would promote economic growth, improve mobility, enhance security and improve the quality of life of residents.

The projects include the Ishaya Bakut Road dual carriageway, Abu King Shuluwa Road, Mama Mbateren Alia Street, Dabo Plaza–Fashion Hub Road, Sir James Iorpuu Street, Tega Bar Street, Jato Aka Road and connecting spurs.

“These roads are pathways to economic growth, improved mobility, enhanced security and a better quality of life for the people of Makurdi and beyond,” she said.

She praised Alia for his visionary leadership and dedication to improving the welfare of the people through strategic infrastructure investments.

Mrs Tinubu urged residents of the state to support the governor’s development efforts and take ownership of the public assets by ensuring their proper use and maintenance.

The first lady also expressed appreciation to the governor for naming one of the roads after her, describing the gesture as a great honour.

She disclosed that her late uncle, popularly known as Dele Bookshop, had deep ties with Benue and was passionately attached to the state throughout his lifetime.

According to her, she initially suggested that the road be named after her late uncle because of his love for Benue but eventually accepted the honour bestowed on her by the governor.

Earlier, Gov. Alia described the event as a celebration of progress, purposeful leadership and the collective determination to build a better Benue.

He said the 10 roads formed part of 45 road projects completed by his administration, adding that they reflected the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, urban renewal and economic growth.

The governor said the projects had opened up previously inaccessible areas, reduced travel time, improved connectivity among communities and enhanced the aesthetic appeal of Makurdi, the state capital.

He added that the projects had created employment opportunities during construction and would continue to stimulate economic activities for years to come.

He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s support for sub-national governments and his commitment to infrastructure development across the country.

According to him, the Renewed Hope Agenda continues to inspire the Benue Government’s efforts to deliver meaningful development and improved living standards for residents.

The governor assured citizens that more projects were ongoing across the state and would be completed in the coming months.

He thanked the first lady for accepting the state’s invitation at short notice, saying her presence would remain a memorable chapter in Benue’s development history and further strengthen ties between the Federal Government and the state.

Alia noted that Ishaya Bakut Road, inaugurated during the ceremony, had been officially renamed Sen. Oluremi Tinubu Road in honour of the first lady.

He described Mrs Tinubu as a mother to Benue and prayed for wisdom, strength and good health for her as she continued to serve the nation.

“It is a privilege to have you commission these landmark projects that will serve our people for generations to come,” the governor added.
