A US-based Ghanaian football fan, Kevin Akoto, has left his job as a line cook after securing a paid role to watch every match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He was selected by American television network FOX as one of its “FOX One World Cup Watchers” and will earn $50,000 for the assignment.
Akoto was chosen alongside Philadelphia-based content creator Austin Franklin from more than 6,000 applicants.
The two are spending 39 days inside a glass cube built in Times Square, New York.
From there, they are watching all 104 matches of the tournament live while streaming reactions and producing content for fans.
The project is supported by Indeed and has become a public attraction, with crowds gathering outside to follow their experience.
Their selection has turned a regular football viewing experience into a full-time content job tied to the World Cup.
