Access Bank Plc has dismissed circulating reports on social media claiming that it is shutting down, assuring customers that the institution remains financially strong and fully operational.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, the bank described the viral message — which falsely mimicked its communication channels — as misleading and untrue.

The bank reassured customers, partners, and stakeholders that its operations across all subsidiaries continue without disruption.

“We wish to reassure our customers, partners, stakeholders, and the public that Access Bank is safe, financially strong, and fully operational. Our services are running seamlessly, and we remain committed to delivering the highest standards of service,” the statement said.

Access Bank stressed that the claims of an impending shutdown are entirely false and urged the public to disregard them.

It also revealed that it is working closely with regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies to track those responsible for spreading the misinformation.

According to the bank, those found culpable will face appropriate legal action in line with existing laws.

The lender further noted that the deliberate spread of false information capable of causing panic or undermining public confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.

Customers were advised to rely only on information from the bank’s verified communication channels and to avoid sharing unverified messages.

“If you receive such false information, do not forward it. Please disregard it and rely only on updates from our official platforms,” the statement added.
