Rogue Cops Exposed: Edo Police sack five officers over kidnap-extortion ring, declare inspector wanted

The Edo State Police Command said it has dismissed five police officers over their alleged involvement in a criminal syndicate accused of abducting and extorting unsuspecting members of the public in Benin City.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this during a press briefing, stating that the syndicate operated around the Teboga axis, off Aduwawa, where victims were allegedly intercepted under the guise of official police operations.

According to her, the victims were forced into commercial buses, driven around the city, and compelled to withdraw money through Point-of-Sale operators before being released.

ASP Ikoedem said operatives of the State Intelligence Department arrested members of the syndicate on April 13, 2026, following multiple complaints of harassment, unlawful arrest, abduction, and extortion.

She noted that more than 11 victims had positively identified members of the syndicate, adding that the network comprised serving and dismissed police officers, commercial bus drivers, and civilian collaborators.

She gave the names of the dismissed officers as Corporals Mordi Philip, Destiny Emmanuel, Uwatse Emmanuel, Okon Elvis, and Samuel David Obeten, who will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction for their alleged involvement in the criminal activities. Inspector Ehubariemen Wisdom, meanwhile, was reduced in rank from Inspector to Sergeant following disciplinary proceedings.

The PPRO also declared Inspector Enahoro Nicholas, attached to Police Mobile Force Squadron 60, wanted after he allegedly absconded and was declared a deserter, with efforts ongoing to apprehend him.

She warned that the command would not shield any officer found culpable of criminal activity, stressing that the action aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that the era of impunity within the force has ended.
