Activist, Harrison Gwamnishu demands justice as in-laws allegedly harass 28-year-old widow eight days after husband

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has demanded justice for a 28-year-old widow, identified as Tosin, who is  allegedly facing severe harassment and intimidation from her late husband’s relatives.

According to a social media statement released by Gwamnishu, Tosin’s husband passed away on July 20, 2026. Rather than being permitted to grieve in peace, the widow has allegedly been subjected to immediate hostility from her in-laws. He said within eight days of the demise, the relatives forcefully moved into the deceased’s residence located in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The in-laws allegedly ordered Tosin to pack her personal belongings and vacate the main areas of the house, confining her and her two young sons to a single room inside the property. Gwamnishu noted that the young mother is currently living in extreme fear for her safety and the well-being of her children.

The grieving widow is making an urgent appeal to the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) for immediate intervention. She is seeking protection against intimidation, unlawful eviction, and ongoing attempts by the family to dispossess her young sons of their late father’s inheritance

His post reads

‘’HER HUSBAND DIED JUST 8 DAYS AGO. 💔

Tosin, a 28-year-old residing at No 8 Jumofak Igbo Oluwo Estate Koya Adeniran, Ikorodu Lagos, lost her legally married husband on 20th July, 2026. Instead of being allowed to grieve in peace, her world has been turned upside down by late husband family.

Her father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and his wife left their house and moved into the home of her late husband and ordered the young widow to pack all her personal belongings, along with those of her two young sons, into just one room inside the house.

To make matters worse, some of her late husband’s properties have reportedly already been shared, while plans are underway to sell his car.

This grieving widow is now living in fear for herself and her two children. She is appealing to the Lagos State Government, especially the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency @LagosDSVA to urgently intervene and protect her and her children from intimidation, unlawful dispossession, and any further actions that may deprive her children of their late father’s inheritance.

No widow should have to fight for dignity, shelter, and justice just days after losing her husband”
