AIG Salman-Dogo Retires After Decades Of Service, Thanks Tinubu, Police Leadership, Stakeholders

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Salman-Dogo Garba has formally retired from the Nigeria Police Force after a distinguished career spanning several decades, bringing to a close a tenure marked by professionalism, discipline and leadership.

Garba, who served as the AIG in charge of Zone 5 Headquarters, Benin City, officially retired on July 21, 2026. 

His exit from the Force according to SP Tijani A. Momoh, Public Relations Officer, Zone 5 Headquarters, was celebrated with a colourful Pulling-Out Parade and Send-Forth Ceremony attended by senior serving and retired police officers, government officials, traditional rulers, heads of sister security agencies, business leaders, family members and friends.

In his farewell address, the retired police chief expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to strengthening the Nigeria Police Force and improving national security. 

He also thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and members of the Force Management Team for the confidence reposed in him and the support he received throughout his career.

Garba equally acknowledged the Chairman and members of the Police Service Commission for promoting professionalism, accountability and institutional development within the Force.

The retired AIG commended the governors of Delta and Edo states, Sheriff Oborevwori and Monday Okpebholo, respectively, for their cooperation with Zone 5 Headquarters. According to him, the partnership between the state governments and the Police enhanced security, public safety and effective policing across both states.

He also praised Commissioners of Police, tactical commanders, officers and personnel serving in Delta, Edo and Zone 5 Headquarters for their loyalty, dedication and teamwork.

Reflecting on his years in service, Garba described his policing career as fulfilling and rewarding, noting that every achievement recorded was the result of collective effort and commitment.

He urged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to uphold discipline, professionalism, respect for the rule of law and the protection of citizens’ rights. 

He also encouraged greater adoption of community policing, intelligence-led operations and ethical leadership.

Garba appealed to residents of Edo and Delta states to continue supporting the Police with credible information to aid crime prevention, expressing confidence that the Force would continue to grow into a more professional and people-oriented institution under the current leadership.
