A pork seller in Tarkwa in the Western Region has fallen victim to a sophisticated scam after discovering that money he received as payment for his pork had turned into worthless pieces of paper.
The incident that has drawn attention to the prevalence of currency fraud targeting traders in Ghanaian markets.
According to the account accompanying the footage, the seller completed what appeared to be a legitimate transaction with buyers who purchased his entire stock of pork.
It was only after the buyers had departed that he examined the payment more closely and discovered that the notes had either been switched or treated in a manner that caused them to disintegrate into torn scraps of paper and newspaper.
Footage of the aftermath shows the victim seated at a small table examining the worthless scraps that replaced what should have been his earnings, with what appear to be remnants of Ghana cedi notes among the debris.
