President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence that Ghana’s Black Stars can win the FIFA World Cup in 2030 if the team is properly developed and maintained.

Speaking during an inspection visit to the Ho Stadium, the president praised the team’s performance at the ongoing 2026 World Cup, saying they performed better than many expected.

According to President Mahama, many Ghanaians did not believe the Black Stars could make it past the group stage before the tournament started.

He said the team surprised critics by advancing beyond the group stage, although they failed to win the competition.

The president believes that keeping the current squad and encouraging the technical team to continue working together could help Ghana build a stronger team capable of winning major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the World Cup.

He said:

“We also need to start preparing for the next World Cup. The Black Stars did well; nobody gave them a chance. People predicted that they would crash out at the Group stage, but they managed to get into the Round of 32”.

“I am sure that if we keep this team and we persuade the coach to continue to work with the team, by the time of the next AFCON and World Cup, we will have a team that can claim the championship in any of those two competitions,” the president added.
