Bus preaching distracts drivers, can lead to breach of peace – MURIC backs FRSC bill

Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has declared that preaching inside commercial vehicles can distract drivers and may also lead to breach of public peace.
MURIC made declaration while reacting to the proposed anti-bus preaching bill initiated by Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.
The FRSC had introduced a bill aimed at banning preaching and hawking inside commercial vehicles.
MURIC in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the proposed legislation which is currently at the National Assembly as a step in a right direction.
He said that the organisation is in total support of the proposed bill.
Akintola in the statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday, explained that the proposed bill when it becomes law will bring decorum inside commercial vehicles.
He said that MURIC is supporting FRSC for initiating the bill based on two reasons – noting that bus preaching can distract drivers thereby leading to road accidents, and also constitutes conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
Akintola enjoined members of the National Assembly to attend to the bill to ensure that it becomes law as soon as possible.
“This is a step in the right direction. With emphasis on bus preaching, we commend FRSC for this proactiveness. The whole idea is not only visionary but also precautionary and constructive. Preaching inside the bus is most uncivilized and discourteous.
“We support the FRSC bill for two main reasons. Bus preaching distracts drivers thereby leading to accidents with the attendant deaths and injuries.
“Secondly, bus preaching constitutes conduct likely to cause breach of public peace. Our lawmakers need to urgently attend to the FRSC bill in view of the high proliferation of road crashes in the country,” parts of the statement read.
