Chadwick Boseman’s brothers want his widow removed as estate administrator over alleged mismanagement

Chadwick Boseman’s brothers, Kevin and Derrick Boseman, have asked a Los Angeles court to remove his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, as administrator of the late actor’s estate, accusing her of failing to properly manage and distribute its assets nearly six years after his death.

In court documents filed on Friday, the brothers alleged that Taylor has not complied with a 2022 court order that granted Chadwick’s parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, a combined 50 percent share of the estate, while Taylor was given control of the remaining half after the actor died without a will.

According to the filing, the family has allegedly been kept uninformed about the status of the estate, with the brothers claiming that key assets have still not been distributed almost four years after the court’s ruling.

The estate reportedly includes movie residuals and royalties, intellectual property and image rights, investments, insurance policies, bank accounts and personal belongings. Kevin and Derrick claim the family has received little or no information regarding the management of these assets, including more than $3 million held in various bank accounts.

The brothers further alleged that Taylor has yet to transfer a long-term care insurance policy to their mother, distribute funds from Chadwick’s bank accounts, account for posthumous SAG-AFTRA residual payments, or recover and distribute other unclaimed property belonging to the late actor.

They argue that the delays have deprived Chadwick’s parents of assets and benefits they are entitled to receive, prevented the family from pursuing projects connected to his legacy, caused emotional distress and allowed Taylor to continue benefiting solely from his name and image. According to the filing, the family has repeatedly raised these concerns with Taylor but claims the issues remain unresolved.

Kevin and Derrick are asking the court to hold Taylor in contempt for allegedly failing to comply with the 2022 court order. They also want her to provide a full accounting of the estate and complete the distribution of the remaining assets within 30 days.

In addition, they are requesting that Taylor be permanently removed as administrator of the estate and replaced by attorney Jason Rubin. They also want the court to prevent her from signing major agreements involving Chadwick’s estate without the family’s approval, require her to disclose all estate-related contracts and order her to cover the family’s legal fees.

Chadwick Boseman died on August 28, 2020, from complications related to colon cancer after privately battling the disease for four years.
