No fewer than 10 people have been k!lled and many houses burnt in a communal clash between the Fulani and Kamuku in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
It was gathered that the incident, which occurred yesterday, was a reprisal for an earlier clash between the same tribal groups a few weeks ago, in which one person was k!lled.
It was learnt that the clashes occurred between the two villages of Mararraban Gwadaro and Tashan Bako, in the Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
An eyewitness account revealed that those k!lled were mostly women and children who could not defend themselves as the clash turned bloody.
The Chairman of Rafi Local Government Area, Ayuba Usman Katako, confirmed the clash but did not disclose the number of casualties, adding that an investigation had commenced to identify those responsible and ensure they face the wrath of the law.
While condemning the incident, he noted with displeasure that no responsible government would fold its arms and allow its people to be k!lled without action.
He added that security operatives had been adequately mobilised to the area to prevent further violent clashes, assuring that normalcy would be restored to the warring communities.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would find out the details and get back.
