A New Jersey native who served in the U.S. Army was fatally shot by a woman during a dispute over a parking spot outside a Florida Walmart. Bart Diguglielmo, a 62-year-old retired Staff Sergeant, was k!lled in front of the supercenter in North Lauderdale, Florida, just before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Officials stated that Diguglielmo and the female shooter were embroiled in a verbal altercation over a parking space before the confrontation turned deadly. The woman claimed to investigators that she shot Diguglielmo in self-defense. Witnesses at the scene recalled the woman becoming hysterical as police began investigating the incident, with bystanders overhearing her screaming continuously immediately after the gunfire.

Video footage shared on social media captured the tense moments leading up to the shooting. The recording shows a woman wearing a white shirt exiting her vehicle with a firearm already in her hand, exchanging words with a man in a gray shirt, identified as Diguglielmo, who had walked up toward her position.

The two shoppers repeatedly pointed at one another during the heated argument. At one point in the footage, Diguglielmo placed both of his arms in the air as they stood within an empty parking space. The video then shows Diguglielmo following the woman around another parked vehicle while she kept the firearm aimed at him. A single gunshot is heard on the recording, after which Diguglielmo collapsed to the ground. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Diguglielmo, who resided in Lauderhill, Florida, was a native of Hammonton, New Jersey. His sister described him as a decorated military veteran who served as a combat nurse, combat medic, and tactical communications expert during Operation Desert Storm.

Following his military service, he worked as a professional nurse before retiring. His sibling, whose name was withheld, emphasized his character, describing him as a peaceful Christian man who would not intentionally cause harm to anyone.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has withheld the name of the female shooter while the investigation continues. Once the initial police inquiry is finalized, the Broward County State Attorney’s Office will review the evidence and the self-defense claim to determine whether formal criminal charges will be filed against her.
