The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Amos Paul over allegations that he burned the private part of his 10-year-old daughter with a hot pressing iron as punishment for bedwetting.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to him, the suspect, who resides in Unaun, Upenme, in Owo Local Government Area, was arrested following a report received by the police on Thursday.
The PPRO stated that the child sustained severe injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
He explained that the incident, reported to the police on Thursday, July 16, 2026, revealed that the suspect allegedly used a hot pressing iron to burn his daughter’s private part as punishment for bedwetting.
He added that the victim is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, following the severe injuries she sustained.
Jimoh said detectives attached to the ‘A’ Division in Owo responded promptly upon receiving the report, arrested the suspect and took him into custody.
He noted that the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further action.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act as cruel, inhumane and unacceptable, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse, violence and exploitation.
Ohagwu also called on members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and related offences to the nearest police station, assuring that offenders would be brought to justice.
