Gov Idris announces payment of N10,000 monthly allowance to Corps members

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has announced his administration’s readiness to start paying N10,000 monthly allowance for corps members serving in the state.

Governor Idris made this known Tuesday during the 2026 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management/Corps employers’ workshop, held in Birnin Kebbi.

The theme for the workshop is “Fine-tuning stakeholders’ collaboration to enhance Corps members’ welfare and workplace experience.”

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Nurudeen Bala-Fingilla, who is also Chairman of the NYSC governing board, said that all corps members serving in the state would benefit from the payment.

He said that the payment was to cushion the effects of inflation, noting that Kebbi State remained a home away from home for corps members serving in the state.

The governor urged them to reciprocate the gesture by being diligent, disciplined, hardworking and committed to their various places of primary assignments for the betterment of their host communities.

Idris underscored the responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring that corps members are not only productively engaged, but also provided with a conducive, safe and supportive environment.

In his remarks, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General O. Nafiu, represented by the Acting Director, North West,  Eghieye Mary, explained that the workplace serves as the primary platform for corps members to acquire practical experience.

He urged corps employers to provide meaningful job assignments relevant to their qualifications and capabilities, as well as offer appropriate mentorship, supervision, and opportunities for their professional growth.

Nafiu said that NYSC management appreciates employers who consistently provide accommodation, transportation support, healthcare services, mentoring and other forms of assistance to corps members.

The Director-General urged employers to continue to foster workplaces that are respectful, supportive, and free from all forms of discrimination, exploitation, harassment and abuse.

The State Coordinator of NYSC in Kebbi, Bala Dabo-Kagarko, explained that the idea behind the workshop was to exchange ideas, review collective responsibilities, identify challenges and develop strategies for improving the welfare, security and workplace experiences of corps members across the state.
