Gov Mutfwang procures fertilisers, approves subsidy to boost agriculture output

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has procured 500 truck load of fertilisers and approved a substantial subsidy on fertilisers to boost agriculture towards productivity and empowerment of farmers across the state.

Governor Mutfwang, in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, said a 50kg bag of fertilizer will cost ₦20,000 against the prevailing market price of between ₦50,000 and ₦53,000.

The Governor mentioned that the subsidy will take immediate effect to enable farmers access the inputs without delay as the planting season gathers momentum.

He further explained that the fertilizer subsidy is a direct response to the concerns consistently raised by farmers over the rising cost of farming inputs and reflects the government’s determination to make agriculture more productive, profitable, and sustainable.

Governor Mutfwang equally disclosed that the Plateau State Government has procured approximately 500 truckloads of fertilizer for distribution to farmers across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state adding that the intervention is designed to reduce the high cost of agricultural production, enhance farmers’ productivity, and strengthen food security throughout Plateau.

According to the Governor, agriculture remains a major pillar of his administration’s development agenda and a critical driver of economic growth, employment, and rural development.

The Governor declared: “The intervention aligns with the broader agricultural development objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda and complements ongoing efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship while increasing food production across the country”.

The Governor therefore called on farmers across Plateau to take full advantage of the subsidy programme, and assured them of his administration’s continued commitment to implementing policies and programmes that support agricultural productivity, improve rural livelihoods, and position Plateau as Nigeria’s leading hub for agriculture and agribusiness.
