Herder Collapses After 42 Cows Die Suddenly In Abuja Community

Musa Lawal, a 41-year-old herder, reportedly fell after 42 of his cows perished in Koroko, Kwali Area Council, Federal Capital Territory.

Yahuza Ibrahim, the FCT Treasurer of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, verified the occurrence to our reporter via phone on Thursday.

According to Ibrahim, the event happened on Tuesday around 6:12 p.m., when two of the herder’s sons took the cattle out to graze.

He stated that the animals were later discovered dead in various spots in the jungle after grazing, raising the possibility that they eaten chemically contaminated grass.

“As soon as we received the report, I notified the MACBAN chairman, who instructed me to proceed to the spot. We found that 42 cows had died. “We suspect they ate chemically treated grass,” he stated.

Ibrahim stated that Lawal raced to the location after learning of the tragedy, but collapsed upon realizing that 42 of his cows had died.

He said the herder was immediately transported to Kwali’s General Hospital and admitted before being discharged on Wednesday after recovering from the shock.

He stated that the chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. Nuhu Daniel Kwali, and Fulani community leaders paid a visit to the family to express their condolences over the loss.

Confirming the occurrence, Hon. Nuhu Daniel Kwali, chairman of the Kwali Area Council, expressed shock and sadness upon receiving the report.

The chairman stated that the council had asked the relevant security agencies, including the Department of State Services and other security personnel, to conduct a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the cause of death.

He added that the council was also contemplating methods to assist the affected herder in mitigating the impact of the loss and preventing a breakdown in peace between farmers and herders in the area.
