INEC asks Nigerians to register for PVC before deadline as it insists CVR ends today

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reminded eligible Nigerians that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise closes today, Sunday, July 26, urging those yet to register or update their details to do so before the deadline.

In a post on X, the electoral body said the exercise is a key requirement for citizens who wish to participate in the 2027 general election.

“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” the commission said. “Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.” INEC advised eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to complete the process through its online CVR portal or visit any of its state or local government offices before registration closes.

The commission noted that the exercise also allows registered voters to apply for transfers, correct personal information and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The conclusion of the exercise marks the end of a nationwide voter registration programme carried out in phases over the past year.

The first phase began in August 2025 with online pre-registration, followed by physical registration on August 25. By the end of that phase in December, INEC had recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations, including 1,503,832 online registrations and 1,068,222 completed through physical enrolment.

A second phase ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026, during which the commission recorded a further 3,748,704 completed registrations nationwide.

INEC launched the third phase of the exercise in May before extending the registration period by an additional two weeks in July to enable more eligible citizens to participate. With the deadline now reached, the commission urged prospective voters not to delay any further, stressing that voter registration is essential for those intending to vote in the 2027 general election.
