INEC extends CVR exercise to July 26,  introduces online registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba State has announced an extension of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, alongside the introduction of a new self-service registration platform for first-time voters.

According to the commission, the CVR exercise, which was earlier scheduled to end on Friday, July 10, 2026, will now continue until Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The extension follows a nationwide review of the registration process and is aimed at giving more eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register ahead of upcoming elections.

INEC explained that the decision reflects its commitment to ensuring inclusiveness and fairness in the electoral process, so that no eligible citizen is left out of the national voters’ register.In addition, the commission has introduced a self-service registration option for first-time voters. The digital platform will go live on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and will be accessible through the official CVR portal at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org./

In a statement made available to journalists in the state on Saturday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity Department, Ngunan Rachael Iyongo, the new system, according to the commission, allows eligible citizens to begin and complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices such as smartphones or computers, without visiting INEC offices physically.

A step-by-step guide, as announced by the commission, has been provided on the portal to assist users.

INEC urged all eligible residents of Taraba State who have not yet registered to take advantage of both the extended registration period and the new online registration option.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, credible and technology-driven voter registration process that enhances citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s democratic system.
