Kano Govt disowns viral circular on suspension of workers’ salaries

The Office of the Head of Civil Service, HoS, in Kano State has disowned a viral circular directing the suspension of salaries for persons allegedly irregularly enrolled into the state government’s payroll, describing the document as fake and misleading.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Rukayya Sulaiman, the office said the circular, titled “Suspension of Salary Payment to Persons Irregularly Enrolled into the State Payroll,” bearing reference number HCS/LEV/2/1 and dated June 19, 2026, did not originate from the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

Mrs Sulaiman said the document was neither signed nor issued by the Director of Administration and General Services (DAGS) or any other authorised officer of the office.

She added that the use of the director’s name and designation in the document was fraudulent and intended to mislead members of the public.

“The Office of the Head of Civil Service wishes to draw the attention of the general public, civil servants and all stakeholders to a fake circular currently circulating on various social media platforms and other channels titled ‘Suspension of Salary Payment to Persons Irregularly Enrolled into the State Payroll’ with reference number HCS/LEV/2/1, dated June 19, 2026.

“This Office wishes to categorically state that the purported circular did not originate from the Office of the Head of Civil Service and is therefore false, misleading and should be disregarded in its entirety.

“The management further clarifies that the said document was not signed or issued by the Director, Administration and General Services (DAGS) or any authorised officer of the Office of the Head of Civil Service. The use of the Director’s name and designation in the fake document is fraudulent and intended to mislead members of the public.

“Members of the public and the entire civil service are advised to disregard the fake circular and refrain from sharing or acting upon its contents,” the statement said.

The office stressed that all official communications from the Office of the Head of Civil Service are issued only through recognised and verified channels.

It also called on security agencies to investigate the origin of the fake circular and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and due process, the office urged the public to rely solely on official communications for information relating to the Kano State Civil Service.

“For authentic information, the public is encouraged to rely only on official communications issued by the Office of the Head of Civil Service,” the statement added.
